The General Secretary of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, Nayef Hawatmeh, met with Palestinian Knesset member Mohammad Barakeh in Damascus on Saturday, January 7.

They discussed the political situations in Palestine and Israel in light of the upcoming Palestinian Legislative Council elections and the grave medical condition of Israeli Prime Minster Ariel Sharon.

Hawatmeh expressed hope that the PLC elections will be carried out as scheduled in a free and transparent manner.

Barakeh, who is also Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, called for Palestinians bearing Israeli citizenship to vote for a united list in the Israeli elections slated for 28 March 2006.
